Visiting this shop was an incredible experience. I confess, I did not look at the opening hours in advance of attempting to visit from the UK whilst taking a road trip to Switzerland. However, Guillaume was kind, welcoming, and incredibly generous with his time. He is an asset to the community and a really wonderful person to talk to. I came away with an unforgettable experience, and a pen I am so proud to own. I hope to visit again some time soon.

This shop, and Guillaume in particular, are one of the treasures of Bern. I walked into Watch & Write at the very beginning of what I assumed would be a months-long search for the perfect watch, and within moments Guillaume placed the exact watch I ended up buying into my hands. A beautiful Cartier Trinity that I know I’ll treasure forever. I completely fell in love with the place and with Guillaume’s passion for beautiful objects and craftsmanship. I’m someone who tends to overthink big purchases and often struggles with buyer’s remorse, so trust and instinct matter enormously to me. What struck me immediately was how genuinely Guillaume cares about helping people find the right watch, not simply making a sale. I never felt pressured. If anything, I left with the feeling that it mattered more to him that I loved the piece than whether I bought anything at all. I especially appreciated that he took the time to show me and let me try on pieces that were obviously outside my budget. It gave me the sense that everything in the shop is there because he personally finds it beautiful and wants to share that enthusiasm with others. A rare place with real soul, taste, and generosity.

Nestled in the Bern’s old town, Watch and Write is a lovely store for anyone into, or even curious about fountain pens. The owner, Guillaume, is knowledgable in both new and vintage pens, and a pleasure to talk to. He let me test out and search through his stockpile of vintage pens, and managed to surprise me with a 1970’s Lamy 25p, which I had been looking for. It was in great condition, and once cleaned and inked, it wrote buttery smooth. I’m so happy with it! If you are in Bern, or even passing by, and love pens, it’s totally worth stopping to see what Guillaume has in stock.

Guillaume doesn't simply sell pens. He provides an immersive, incredible experience and introduces you to the wonderful world of fountain pens. I tagged along with a friend, not expecting to necessarily to buy anything and then proceeded to have, hands-down, the most personalized and pleasant "fitting" of my life. Guillaume's passion is infectious, and I found myself caring deeply for something I previously hadn't given much thought to. Thank you Guillaume for the highlight of our trip to Bern. The city of Bern toutes a slew of vendors and shopping attractions, but few can hold their own against Watch and Write. Guillaume, the proprietor of Watch and Write, has dedicated his life to fountain pens, and his passion is felt when talking with him. He is very kind, generous, and incredibly knowledgeable on the topic. As someone who could not make it down the steps to his shop, he had no issues emailing me for details as to what I was looking for AND was more than willing to meet me at a more convenient location with pens in hand for me to try. Rest assured, whether you are new to fountain pens or a seasoned user, he will guide you on an incredible journey to find the pen you’ve been searching for. Don’t find what you’re looking for? No problem. Guillaume is up front that he will never sell a pen to anyone unless that person is sure they have THE ONE. If you find yourself in Bern, do yourself a favor, and stop by his shop.
